Tornado Alley Chapter of Sisters in Crime
Murder in Tornado Alley: Volume Two

Call for Submissions: A member anthology to be published in November 2025.


The Tornado Alley Chapter of Sisters in Crime requests submissions for “Murder in Tornado
Alley: Volume Two.”
The anthology will consist of previously unpublished short pieces of
crime writing by Tornado Alley SinC members in good standing. Writers may submit more than
one manuscript any time during the submission window. Deadline: March 30, 2025.


Once submitted, all works will be forwarded without the authors’ names to the editors. The
Tornado Alley editors reserve the right to request revision during the editing process.


As with the first anthology, proceeds from the sale of the anthology will go to the chapter to fund
events for writers and readers although contributors may purchase author copies to resell. There
will be no payments to authors for their work.


Anthology Guidelines:


Theme: Crime Writing. Entries must be consistent with the Crime Writing genre.
Who may submit: Any and all members of the Tornado Alley Chapter of Sisters in Crime in good standing. Submissions will be blind.


Anthology Categories:

  • Creative Nonfiction (journalistic articles and memoir)—1500-2000 words

  • Short Story—1500-4000 words

  • Poetry—individual poems

  • Flash Fiction—500 words

Content Warnings or Trigger Warnings:


Content warnings or trigger warnings are notes presented at the beginning of content—visual,
text, etc.—that alert the audience to potentially distressing material. All authors should declare
sensitive topics at the beginning of their submissions. For example: The following story contains
examples of child abuse.


Examples of trigger warning topics:


1) Sexual assault
2) Abuse
3) Child abuse/pedophilia/incest
4) Animal cruelty or animal death
5) Self-harm and suicide

Formatting Guidelines:

 

  • Use standard formatting in Word doc or docx: Left alignment, one-inch margins, fivespace paragraph indention, and double spacing (except for poetry, which may be aligned

  • and spaced as the author sees fit).

  • Center the title at the top of the first page.

  • Use a header, aligned right: title, category, word count, page number. For example: Murder in the Office/ short story/1500 words / p. 1

  •  Do not put your name anywhere on the manuscript

Submission Guidelines:

 

  • Send your manuscript to Melissa Hearn at noirhorror@gmail.com any time from January1,2025, through midnight, March 30, 2025.

  • In the subject line, type the phrase: Submission – TA SinC Anthology.

  • In the text of the email, put your name, the title or titles of your submissions, your email address, and phone number. (No personal information will be shared.)

  • Attach your submission to the email
